Our Apologies

…to the families from Hood River who came in on Sunday after 2:00pm. They did not and could not know we stop serving Breakfast, Breakfast Sandwiches & Lunch at 2:00pm.

A major error on our part…this information should have been been on our Web site…it is now, right below our hours on every page.

Various.

Cold Press Coffee is back. Spring has sprung!

Table service started this last weekend…went great. Yes Rob and Sam, it was your very good idea.

We have a great new cover over the four big outside tables.

Something is happening at NE Glisan Bakery Bar. Everything is really falling into place. Business is good and the staff is great..moment of gratitude.

Table Service on the Weekends Now

We’re moving to table service with servers on the weekends. Today, March 20th will be the first day. The counter service will still be there for ‘grab and go’ customers.

With the breakfast part of the business growing so much…esp. on the weekends, we think this is going to be a great way to improve our service.

World Cup 2010 Schedule

Listed times are EST. All games will be live on ESPN, ESPN2, ABC and Univision

http://www.worldcupbuzz.com/world-cup-tv-schedule/

FIFA’s schedule: http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/index.html

Game times PST are 4:00am, 6:30am and 11:00am. We’ll do our best to show most of the 4:00am starts. The 6:30am and 11:00am starts will be no problem. Also, in looking at other schedules, ESPN’s start times appear to include 30 minutes of pre-game coverage.

World Cup 2010 from S. Africa

…starts in 92 days. We need to start figuring out how many TV’s we need. A whole lot of customers seem really excited about us doing this again, as we did in 2006. I sure am.

And So It Ends. SE Water Ave Shop Closed Today (for good).

Definitely significant amounts of melancholy today as we closed the SE Water Ave shop. Huge amounts of hard work went into getting open in late 2005. We did so much of the work ourselves. The neighborhood was supportive from the start as we evolved and grew. The World Cup in the summer of 2006 was way too much fun. The place really worked out.

Our employees have been the best. After we opened the NE Glisan spot, they really ran it all. We could not ask for better staff. And at the risk of getting sentimental I(Dan) would like to say that the one single most important thing I’ll take away from the whole effort is our staff’s genuine goodness. If you watched them work you realized immediately that they were obviously friends with each other and enjoyed working together. That will always mean a great deal to me.

So hats off to a great staff and to the great set of customers that supported them. Hope to see you all at the NE Glisan shop soon.

SE Water Ave Bakery Bar Sold; Will Close March 2

We are finally able to confirm that Bakery Bar’s location on SE Water Ave has been sold. Its final day of business will be Tuesday, March 2. The new owners are currently making arrangements for an entirely new and very different food and beverage venture.

Bakery Bar’s NE shop, at 2935 NE Glisan - IS NOT PART OF THE SALE. The NE shop, just over a year old, is thriving and has big plans in store for 2010. In the first week of February, we began serving cocktails. By mid-March, we will have improved year-round outdoor seating. And this summer(June/July), we will again show most of the games in the FIFA World Cup.

The sale of the SE Water Ave location is bittersweet for us to be sure. It has been a very special part of the SE Industrial neighborhood as a destination for great coffee, scones, and lunch. Our employees have been wonderful. We will always be grateful for their hard work. The set of regular customers we have are second to none. In general, we are very aware that everyone involved with the shop is going to feel a genuine sense of loss. We feel it too.

But the sale will allow us to focus on the NE Glisan store. It also gives us some much needed breathing room in our busy lives. Running two shops, especially in this economy, is/has been tough. It really does take a great deal of energy and we are thankful to get a break.

So, to all our SE Water Ave customers: a very big “Thank You”. We hope you visit us at the NE Glisan shop. We’re confident you’ll like it there too.

Finally, we’d like to make a polite but very important request: Please help us by clearly specifying the “SE Water Ave shop” in your discussions, tweets, blog posts, facebook comments/chats, etc. We’ve learned it’s very easy for people to get the wrong idea.

See you all the NE Glisan shop soon.

With Both Excitement and Regret,

Dan Stoops and Jocelyn Barda, Owners

How Did You Choose the Name? Is it a Bar Too?

If all goes well, the NE Glisan shop will finally be both a Bakery and a Bar on Friday, January 29!

Since we opened Bakery Bar, we have been asked more times than we can count, “Is it a bar too? Do you guys have booze?” The truth is booze was always part of the plan. I (Dan) wanted to open a pub or bar and Jocelyn wanted to have a bakery. And when we were brainstorming names and concepts, I think Jocelyn blurted out Bakery Bar as a way to bridge the two visions.

We will have a full license in order to serve wonderful cocktails with Mac’s wonderful breakfast and lunch food. Breakfast/Brunch on the weekends is growing very nicely and beverages should be the perfect addition.

PS: Long time customers will recall we had beer and wine at the Water Ave location for a few months in 2006. True…it went so well I had actually forgotten about it until an employee reminded me. It will be much better this time around.
